|Superfast Broadband for Dedham April 2, 2013|
The Superfast Essex project is being managed by Essex County Council and is funded by £13m of joint Government and Essex CC funding. It is aimed at providing Superfast Broadband across Essex, specifically and only to areas that will not get a commercially funded solution, BT or Fujitsu were possible partners for the technical rollout, but we understand that Fujitsu has now dropped out from the programme nationally. Dedham could qualify for funding under this project and we should know in the autumn of this year.
To help with our understanding, at recent Parish Council public meetings we have invited guest speakers.
Firstly Annette Thorpe, Broadband Partnership Director, East of England, BT Group. Annette explained process that BT would be following in its bid for the tender.
Then David Wilde, Chief Information Officer, Essex CC. joined us to explain Superfast Essex in more detail and encourageingly reported that Essex was making good progress ahead is its original timescales.
There is a very good chance that Dedham could benefit from this programme, we could get improved infrastructure and much faster speeds to many of our homes and businesses. BUT everyone in Dedham must help raise the Essex CC's awairness of how important this is to us - the Parish council cannot do this on your behalf and your voice counts.
To give Dedham the best chance of getting funding you need to complete the online survey which can be found at:
